In mid-March, more than 400 interested students, parents and teachers from the surrounding area streamed through the open doors of the Academy of Maisha Mazuri Secondary School – a complete success! The visitors participated in a varied and colorful program, which was superbly organized by our dedicated team of students and teachers.
Among the highlights were the exciting experiments in the chemistry lab, where the children and young people were able to marvel at the impressive color changes caused by various acid-base mixtures.
They were also fascinated by the guided tour of the boarding school’s premises, which impress with their spaciousness, cleanliness and functionality – not a matter of course in the Tala region.
There was plenty to do and learn for everyone on site: baking, sewing, digging up veggie beds, looking after rabbits, working on the computer or understanding how the biogas and water treatment plant works. Sporting activities were not neglected either – soccer and volleyball were on the program.
An unexpected highlight was the open discussion round, which was very well received by the participants. Students engaged in a lively and passionate debate on the topic of “day school versus boarding school”.
Principal Mr. Nicholas Lubisia is convinced that the Open Doors Day was far more than just a successful advertisement for the Academy. Not only did the visitors go home happy, but it was also a fulfilling day for our “orga-team” of students and teachers. Everyone learned a lot – and experienced how much can be achieved together with commitment and passion.
For sure, the Secondary School will continue to open its doors to interested parties in the future and confidently communicate its own philosophy to the outside world.
